Dart Manipulation – Multiple Darts

Hello everyone

To continue on from the first part of my dart manipulation tutorial, I show you how to turn a single dart into multiple darts.

Dart manipulation is one of the most important techniques when it comes to pattern drafting. The shape and fit of garments depend on darts and while they are needed to help garments stay in shape, they can also be used as a design element so knowing how to move darts will be beneficial.

I’ve used dart manipulation when making a lot of my dresses. For example, the gathers on the neckline of the night version of my mix and match dress came about through using dart manipulation techniques.

  1. Thank you for another great video Doja! I think manipulating darts is such a great way to add interest and additional style lines to a garment and in the case of making one dart into a few, get a better fit. I’ve read that especially for women (like me!) who have a large bust 2 darts are better than one! 🙂

    • Yes, definitely Kathleen! Darts really do add something extra to an otherwise plain outfit and when it comes to fit, I can definitely attest to two being better than one 😛
