Makeup Bags for Fun – Tutorial

Hello February!

I feel like every time I write on my blog I have to apologise for my lack of engagement here and on YouTube. Without sounding like I’m making excuses, I really have been ridiculously distracted.

Same company, different job

Last Sunday I moved back home to London because of my new job working in public relations under corporate communications. For me, this change has been such a massive U-turn; you guys know I come from an engineering background and now here I am working to build and preserve the image of my company – so very different.

I don’t want to delve too deeply into it as this post is for a tutorial I have available, but maybe I’ll create a separate post specifically for it, explaining why the sudden change.

Makeup bags

So for reasons only known to me, which I will reveal in due time, I have been making makeup bags. They are surprisingly quick and easy to put together and only take me about an hour to complete. This is one of those projects that you can potentially make money from, selling functional makeup bags made from unique fabrics of your choice, for example, I used African wax print fabrics for mine.

The tutorial is a live stream of me constructing the bag, right from cutting out the pattern, to adding the lining. I decided to go live on Facebook and do this because it isn’t something that takes too long, nor is it particularly strenuous.

The pattern

All you need for the pattern is a rectangle with dimensions of your choice; I chose a 12″ x 9″ rectangle. You’ll then need to cut out a two small squares from the bottom corners. Mine were 2″ x 2″. Add your desired seam allowance and then you’re good to go.

An alternative

You can always use it as a wash bag, adding some waterproof PVC lining. Don’t restrict this to only makeup. The possibilities are basically endless so have fun with it and send in any you make, I’d love to see them!

Enjoy! And feel free to comment, share and like!
