How to Contour a Bodice Block

Hello Friends!

Pattern Contouring is one of the most useful techniques one can employ when pattern drafting as it guarantees a well fitted garment (if done correctly).

This specific technique is something people sometimes struggle to understand, I know I did, but now that I actually know how it works, I’ve created a video to help you all!

Fast forward to 3:55 if you want to see an example of how contouring is used or watch the dedicated tutorial on contouring necklines to prevent gaping.

  1. In such case i need to contour and do a dart manipulation, which one should i do first? Thanks in advance ❤️

    • Hi Olivia, I suggest you do your dart manipulation first and then contour as contouring essentially changes the shape of a dart. Good luck!

  2. Discovered your tutorial on Bodice Block Contouring on YouTube a few weeks ago and have found it very, very helpful. I am self-taught and not as experienced as you are yet but you explained the concept of contouring so simply I now feel like I fully understand it.
Thanks for taking the time to make these tutorials, your no-nonsense style makes absorbing the information easy and enjoyable.

  3. Glad I found your posts. I have been trying to figure this out for years! I put in all kinds of darts that look weird but usually ends up working. Your tutorials are pretty fast, but that is what the pause button is for. Thanks so much for doing these. I wish I had found them sooner!!!!
